Regular visits to the practice enable us to check and monitor the progress of your children’s teeth, as well as teach them how to look after their teeth and gums at home. We have a friendly team of dentists who look to put your child at ease, helping build a positive view of going to the dentist and giving them confidence for later life.
Appropriate dental care from an early age builds solid foundations. Establishing good daily habits will help keep decay at bay and prevent problems from developing. Our dentists can show children how to brush their teeth properly. If any potential issues are found during their check-ups then quick and effective treatment can be undertaken to minimise the impact and keep their mouth healthy.
A regular teeth-cleaning routine is essential for good dental health. Teeth should be brushed twice daily (the second time at the very end of the day) for two minutes using a fluoride toothpaste, which helps prevent decay.
Brushing can begin as soon as the first milk teeth come through. Only a smear of toothpaste should be used at first, and it should contain between 1,000 and 1,500ppm fluoride. After the age of 3 the amount of toothpaste used should be increased to a pea-sized amount. Brushing should be supervised by an adult until the age of 7, by when children should be able to sufficiently manage themselves. Children are more likely to maintain a good hygiene routine if the process is made as fun as possible.
