We use these to repair decay damaged teeth in the same way as traditional silver fillings – but they have the added advantage of being the same colour as your teeth to make them much less noticeable. White Fillings can also be used to replace existing silver fillings for a quick and effective way to improve the appearance of your smile.
For many years silver amalgam fillings have been the most common way to repair cavities. Although highly effective they can be easily visible when the mouth is open while laughing or talking. White Fillings are becoming more and more popular as they can repair teeth almost invisibly while still being durable and strong. Also known as Tooth Coloured Fillings, they are made from a composite resin that can match your natural tooth colour for an almost seamless result. The new filling will also restore normal function back to the tooth and protect it from further decay.
Your dentist will initially examine your teeth to determine the most appropriate treatment for you. If a White Filling is required then you will be given a local anaesthetic before the decay is carefully removed and the surrounding area cleaned. The cavity is then filled with the natural tooth coloured composite, which is subsequently hardened under a special UV light and polished for the final result.
